How far towards the summit will your desire take you?
On a hiking trip to Nepal, photographer Makoto Fukamachi happens upon a curious, old camera in a backstreet pawn shop. It’s the same make as the one last carried by George Mallory, a legendary mountaineer who attempted to ascend Everest in 1924. Convinced that the camera belonged to Mallory, Fukamachi attempts to take it with him. However, the camera leads him to another mysterious encounter with Joji Habu, an infamous Japanese climber shunned for his reckless personality but praised for his climbing skills.
Habu is rumoured to have perished while attempting to climb Mount Everest, so his sudden presence in Nepal catches Fukamachi’s curiosity. Fukamachi obsessively tracks down Habu, convinced that the talented mountaineer is planning a historical scent of Mount Everest.
Shot on location in Nepal, Everest –The Summit of the Gods– is an awe-inspiring reminder of the harsh, cruel beauty of nature. It is based on Baku Yumemakura’s international best-selling novel by the same name and stars Hiroshi Abe (After the Storm) and Junichi Okada (Library Wars).
