Passionately brewing the spirit of sake

Sake, a traditional Japanese rice wine, takes centre stage in Mirai Konishi’s informative documentary. Kampai! brings life to this popular alcoholic beverage through intimate narratives of three passionate individuals and their journey with sake.

The documentary begins with leading non-Japanese sake expert, John Gauntner. John is a Japanese certified Sake Expert Assessor and is fondly referred to as “The Sake Guy”. We also meet British-born Philip Harper, currently the only non-Japanese toji (master sake brewer). Last but not least, we meet Kosuke Kuji, the charismatic fifth-generation owner of Nanbu Bijin Brewery.
