The life of a professional movie extra, Takuji Kameoka.

Takuji Kameoka is a lonely 37-year-old veteran actor who has never had a big break despite being high praised by directors and his co-actors. Is he really just a luckless actor, or an accidental genius thespian?

Juggling film shoots and auditions, Kameoka spends his time drifting from one day to the next. He often ends a long day’s work at a local bar—drinking himself to sleep while dreaming of taking up a leading role. When he meets a potential partner from a sleepy country town, will his life finally take a turn for the better?

Rising female director Satoko Yokohama brings us a visually stylistic existential comedy. Starring veteran actors Ken Yasuda and Kumiko Aso, and featuring appearances by some of the biggest names in Japanese cinema such as Shota Sometani (BAKUMAN; Kabukicho Love Hotel) and Tsutomu Yamazaki (Kakekomi; Tampopo), The Actor is a deadpan comedy that offers a glimpse into the behind-the-scene workings of Japanese film shoots, theatre productions and the lives of perpetually emerging actors.
