An explosion brings down the broadcasting station, Nichiuri TV, during the filming of the Satsuki Cup, a tournament featuring the competitive traditional card game called karuta. Caught in the bombing, young detective Conan (Minami Takayama) helps childhood sweethearts Heiji (Ryo Horikawa) and Kazuha (Yuko Miyamura) make a narrow escape from the collapsing building. Meanwhile, the reigning Satsuki Cup champion has been found murdered in his Kyoto residence. As if there wasn’t enough happening, karuta player Momiji (Satsuki Yukino) appears unannounced and declares that she is Heiji’s fiancée?!
