The weight of the world and the buoyancy of hope

Screened as part of the JFF 2018.

We all have days when just getting out of bed is difficult. But for Yasuko (breakout performance from Shuri), every day is a challenge. Due to her mental illness and hypersomnia, simple things like household chores and holding a job seem impossible. Added to the mix is an indifferent, almost distant boyfriend Tsunaki (Masaki Suda), and an ex-girlfriend (Riisa Naka) with plans to win him back. Far from a melodramatic romance, Kosai Sekine’s stylish debut feature captures the nuances of love, for oneself and for others.
