The universally loved ramen western returns to the big screen in digitally remastered 4k
Enigmatic truck driver and noodle connoisseur Goro (Tsutomu Yamazaki) stops by a ramen restaurant run by widower Tampopo (Nobuko Miyamoto). Goro is enamoured by the beautiful ramen-maker but is horrified at the sub-par food. Together with his sidekick Gun (played by Ken Watanabe in his breakout role), he takes Tampopo under his wing and transforms her into the best ramen chef in town.
Universally loved by fans of food and cinema, Tampopo serves up a savoury broth of culinary adventure seasoned with offbeat comedy and sensuous romance. It’s sweet, sexy, surreal, and mouthwatering; and most importantly, it’s about living life to the fullest.
A must see film for foodies and classic cinema fans alike. Juzo Itami’s masterpiece, Tampopo, is a tale about strangers who bond together through a quest for the perfect ramen. But it’s also about everything—culture and politics, etiquette and social order, and family and belonging.
“There is no more ‘foodie’ a film, though it predates the term, anticipating a kind of insane fetishism that no longer seems that unlikely.” – Anthony Bourdain
